There are some events we have to look forward to this year, even though Punxsutawney Phil emerged from his hole and saw his shadow, delaying Spring for 6 more weeks, and the polar vortex gripping the country does not seem to be going anywhere soon. Here are several event venues in Miami that may be of interest to you and give you warm thoughts of things to come. These events may even inspire you to plan your family reunion vacations in Miami this Spring.
Jazz in the Gardens Music Festival
This year’s Jazz in the Gardens Music Festival is scheduled to take place March 14th through the 16th at Miami’s Sun Life Stadium. Actor, comedian and one of the original “Kings of Comedy” D.L. Hughley will serve as host of the 9th installment of this annual event. Some of the performers scheduled to appear include Kelly Rowland (formerly of Destiny’s Child), Grammy award winning guitarist Stanley Clarke, Academy Award actor Jamie Foxx, R&B artist Anthony Hamilton and others. More than 63,000 attended last year’s festival, and there is no reason to expect any less for this year’s festivities.
Miami International Film Festival
The 31st Miami International Film Festival will take place March 7 – 16, 2014. Featuring the works of over 93 feature length films and 28 shorts in a wide range of film genres, this year’s festival looks to exceed last year’s attendance of 70,000. Film submissions were made from 38 different countries to be displayed in both competitive and non-competitive categories. The festival is a program of the Miami-Dade College MDCulture program.
Ultra Music Festival 2014
March 28 – 30 are the dates for this year’s Ultra Music Festival. The event features the very best in DJ talent, electronic, drum and bass, house, and dubstep music from around the globe. A visit to Bayfront Park in Downtown Miami will give you access to the festival and the best artists in this exciting music genre.
Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival
Although not technically in the Spring, the 13th Annual Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival is scheduled to tantalize your palate February 20 – 23, 2014. This event will begin at the Delano beachside hosted by James Beard award winning and Food Network host Chef Michael Symon on the 20th. This will be followed by visits from your favorite Food Network personalities and chefs including Emeril Lagasse, Jose Andres, and Robert Irvine. The festival benefits Florida International University’s Chaplin School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, among other beneficiaries.
